FAA Approves Iris Automation BVLOS Flights with No Visual Observers or Ground-Based Detection Gear
BVLOS technology developer Iris Automation (IA), has reportedly collaborated with regulators on 14 completed BVLOS test programs worldwide and has received approvals in the U.S., Canada, U.K., India and South Africa. Working with the City of Reno and the Reno Fire Department (RFD), IA received an FAA waiver to fly a small drone autonomously beyond the pilot’s line of sight without visual observers or the use of additional ground-based detection equipment. To explore applications IA offers, click on Iris Automation.
IA notes that this waiver is an important step in testing over unpopulated areas before testing in urban areas. The waiver covers a rural, unpopulated area south of Reno and was submitted by IA for the use of Casia X, its advanced collision avoidance solution. Casia X reportedly provides situational awareness exceeding that of a human pilot. Read details at sUAS News. Our thanks to Robin E.
